MIAMI, Fla. (March 4, 2002) - La Banda del Sol
is the newest member of the Florida International University School
of Music. The inaugural marching band for the university, La Banda
del Sol will be comprised of more than 100 members who will audition
for spots in the history-making group.
Marching band audition dates are:
· Saturday, March 9, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
· Saturday, April 13, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
· Saturday, May 11, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
· Saturday, June 8, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
· Saturday, July 13, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
"We're looking for talented individuals who want to make history,"
said Marching Band Director Greg Martin. "This group of musicians
will encompass the international flavor of South Florida and will
definitely be a treat for all who watch them."
All prospective members must perform an audition on their particular
instrument or flag. The audition must take place during the audition
dates or an audition tape may be sent to the FIU School of Music.
Anyone who is a student at FIU or who enrolls in the one-credit
marching band class at FIU is eligible to be a member.
FIU recently started its Courtside Players, a 30-member basketball
band that plays at each of the home games.
